The Vietnamese Buddhist Association, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mozambique and the local authorities organised a ceremony to mark Vesak Day - Buddhist Calendar 2562, in Maputo, Mozambique, on July 21.
The traditional rituals drew the attendance of Buddhist leaders and followers, and representatives from relative ministries and departments of Vietnam and Mozambique.
The participants took part in the traditional rituals of bathing the Buddha, and releasing doves to pray for peace.
The event is considered a very meaningful ceremony organised to meet the demands of belief and religion of the Vietnamese community in Mozambique, contributing to strengthening the association of members in community and showing the good ways of Buddhism to local friends.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique, Lê Huy Hoàng, expressed his thanks for the participation of representatives of the Government and religious organisations of Mozambique, wishing them to continue their interest in supporting the activities of the Vietnamese Buddhist Association in Mozambique.
The Vietnamese Buddhist Association in Mozambique presented 500 paper cases for the children and 500 gifts worth more than VND 500,000 each to poor families in Maputo.
The Ambassador expressed his belief that the Vietnamese people community in general and Buddhist followers in Mozambique in particular will continue to promote the tradition of solidarity and help to enhance the image of the Vietnamese people in the hearts of Mozambique friends.
On behalf of leader of the capital Maputo, Minister of Education and Human Development, Conceita Sortane, highly appreciated the meaningful activities of the Vietnamese Buddhist Association in Mozambique for the people, including the association’s offering of 500 paper cases for the children and 500 gifts worth more than VND 500,000 each to poor families in Maputo.
