Most Venerable Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu hosted on September 25 a warm reception for visiting Minister of Buddha Sasana of Sri Lanka Gamini Jayawickrema Perena.
Joining the delegation included Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Saranya Hasathi Urgodawatt Dissanayke, Director of the International Relation Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Đức Vinh.

During the reception, Minister Gamini Jayawickrema Perena stated that Buddhism in Sri Lanka has the mission of preserving Theravada Buddhism, as well as serves as a bridge between Buddhist nations to save the Earth. The Sri Lanka Minister also informed that Sri Lanka will hold an international seminar on climate and environment in 2019 and will invite the VBS to attend this event.
Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu said that together with other religions in Vietnam Buddhism has paid due attention to environment issues and has signed a collaboration agreement for environment protection and climate adaption with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The Most Venerable also hoped that the two sides would continue promoting Buddhist cooperation in the coming time.

On the same day, the Sri Lanka delegation visited Bang pagoda located in Hoang Mai district and met with Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS cum Head of the VBS Committee for Buddhist Propagation Thích Bảo Nghiêm.
