US Secretary of Defense visits Tran Quoc pagoda in Hanoi

United States Secretary of Defense James Mattis and his delegation visited and offered incense at Tran Quoc pagoda located in Hanoi on January 25 on occasion of the State visit to Vietnam  from January 24 to 25.

He was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink.

Most Venerable Abbot of the pagoda Thích Thanh Nhã welcomed the U.S. delegation and briefly introduced about the history of the pagoda.

The Vietnam visit is a continuation of the U.S. official’s trip to Southeast Asia. The Pentagon highlighted the visit to reaffirm the long-term commitment of the United States to the Asia Pacific, Indian Ocean.

Tran Quoc pagoda is located on a small island near the southeastern shore of the West Lake and constructed during the reign of Emperor Lý Nam Đế
