Vinh Phuc – August 12, 2014 - In a ceremony at the Cam Giá Communal House today, U.S. Embassy’s Counselor for Public Affairs, Mr. Terry White, presented a grant for US$ 40,000 to officials of the Vinh Phuc Province People’s Committee to restore and preserve the Cam Giá Communal House in An Tường Commune, Vĩnh Tường District,Vinh Phuc Province. This grant was provided through the U.S. Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation.
This restoration project will allow Vinh Phuc Province to preserve and restore the architectural structure of Cam Gia Communal House to counter the effects of severe degradation. The communal house, built in 1811, was listed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a “national level historical, cultural vestige” in the Decision No 460/QD-BT March 18, 1996. It has eight compartments, with a harem and an altar located in a private space reserved for the saints. In Cam Gia communal house, there are many carved arrays typically present in the transitional period between architectural styles from late Le dynasty to Nguyen dynasty.
The Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) was established by the U.S. Department of State in 2001 to help less developed countries preserve cultural heritage and to demonstrate U.S. respect for other cultures. Since then, the AFCP has supported more than 800 cultural preservation projects in 120 countries worldwide, totaling $46 million (including 13 projects in Vietnam).
