On March 30, U.S. Ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom David Saperstein and his delegation met with Gia Lai provincial authorities during his visit to learn about religious freedom in Vietnam.
Welcoming the delegation included Chairman of Gia Lai provincial People’s Committee Võ Ngọc Thành and local authorities’ representatives.
During the reception, Chairman Võ Ngọc Thành exchanged with the delegation the religious life in the locality. According to the Chairman, Gia Lai province currently has five operative religions, namely Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Caodaism and Baha’i religion with total of nearly 350,000 followers.
At the visiting event, Ambassador David Saperstein took the chance to thank local authorities for their support to his visit, helping him further understanding development of religions and faith practices of local followers.
Later in the day, the U.S. delegation also met with the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs, visited some worshipping places and met with several religious followers in the locality.
