Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya led a delegation to visit the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) on April 26 during his official visit to Vietnam from April 23-27.
Welcoming the Sri Lankan leader to the VBS’s headquarters based in Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi included Most Venerable Standing-Vice President of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Vice Presidents of the VBS council Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang and Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, Seniour Venerable General Secretary of the VBS Thích Đức Thiện.
During the welcoming reception, Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu informed the guests the Buddhist life in the country and Buddhist affairs of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha over the past years. The Vietnamese Buddhist leader also highlighted VBS’s external affairs and said the Vietnam Buddhism has become members of many world Buddhist organizations church, as well as played the leading role in the establishment of several international Buddhist organizations, contributing to promote propagation of Buddhist teachings throughout the world.
Speaking with the hosts, Sri Lankan Parliament leader spoke highly of social contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist sangha as well as its efforts in promoting Buddhist values in the international community. He also expressed hope that the Buddhist exchange and cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka will be strengthened, contributing to the bilateral relation of friendship between the two countries and social development in each country
