Director of International Relation Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Đức Vinh hosted a reception for a visiting Buddhist delegation from Bhutan led by Venerable Sangay Dorji on December 21.
During the welcoming reception, Director Nguyễn Đức Vinh briefed the guests on current religious life in Vietnam and informed that Vietnam currently recognized 41 religious organizations belonging to 14 religions with over 24 million followers, in which Buddhism has 12 million adherents. He also stated that hundreds of delegations from other countries, including Buddhist groups, have come to Vietnam for learning and studying the religious life of Vietnamese people. He also expressed hope that Buddhist relations and exchanges between Bhutan and Vietnam would be boosted in the coming time.
