A photo exhibition entitled ‘Buddhist ruins and heritage’ opened in Hanoi on July 17, which was organised by the Indian Cultural Centre under the Embassy of India in Vietnam.
The exhibition features 70 photos captured by Indian photographer, film maker and art historian Benoy K Behl.
It provides an overall perspective of Buddhist monuments and artistic heritages from the early times and also takes the audience on a visual pilgrimage throughout the life of the Buddha, from his birthplace to his enlightenment, first sermon and final renunciation.
On display are photographs taken in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Buryatia (Siberia) and Kalmykia (Russia), China, Mongolia, Japan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia.
Benoy K Behl has taken over 35,000 photographs of Asian monuments and cultural heritages. He also directed more than 100 documentaries on art history and his exhibitions have been warmly received in 28 countries around the world.
He is well-known for his detailed photography depicting Buddhist art which provides a deep insight into the gentle and compassionate message of the art.
The exhibition will run until July 28 with free admission at the Indian Cultural Centre at 63 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hanoi.
