Over 200 Vietnam overseas Buddhists gathered on February 11th to pray for New Year peace and happiness during the Tet Nguyen Tieu festival (first Full Moon of the Lunar New Year) held by the Vietnamese Buddhist Association in Hungary.
The festival held at Tue Giac Pagoda, the site of the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in Budapest was also attended by Most Venerable Member of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council cum Vice Chairman of the VBS Central Committee for Buddhist Propagation Thích Thiện Bảo, representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Hungary and the Dharma Gate Buddhist College.
During the event, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Bảo shared with Buddhist participants the meaning of the first Full Moon of the Lunar New Year and expressed hope that the festival would contribute to strengthen the overseas Vietnamese community in Hungary.
Overview of the ceremony
In addition to Buddhist rituals of the New Year's prayer for peace and lighting candles, the Vietnamese Buddhists brought special entertainment programs typically featuring Vietnamese culture.
