Over 200 overseas Vietnamese living in UdonThani province and adjacent areas in Thailand were brought together at a ceremony on April 7 to commemorate the death anniversary of the Hùng Kings, the legendary founders of the Vietnamese nation.
Worshipping rituals were carried out to demonstrate the nation’s solidarity and tradition of paying tribute to ancestors.
Legend has it that the Hùng Kings ruled Vietnam from 2879 BC until 258 BC and are considered the founders of the nation. To honor the Kings, the tenth day of the third lunar month serves as the national commemorative anniversary for them.
The worshipping rituals of the Hùng Kings were recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012.
Also on April 7, an incense-offering ceremony to commemorate King Lý Thái Tổ, the founder of Thang Long capital, was held at Kinh Thien Palace in the UNESCO-recognized Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, in Hanoi.
Over the past days, people from across the country and overseas Vietnamese have offered flowers, gifts and incense as expressions of their sincere gratitude to the ancestors who founded the country and as prayers for peace for the country and prosperity for all its people.
