Ho Chi Minh city: Save the Children International meets with management board of Buddhist Leadership Initiative

A delegation from the Save the Children International led by Regional Director for Asia Britta Ostrom paid a working visit to the implementation Board of Buddhist Leadership Initiative Project on Jan 27.

Receiving the guests were Most Venerable Thích Như Niệm, Deputy Head of Ho Chi Minh city Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee cum Head of the Project implementation Board, project staff, representatives from institutions and volunteers.

The Buddhist Leadership Initiative (BLI) is a co-operative programme between the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and several Asian governments for HIV prevention. In Vietnam, the project also received supports from the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Save the Children International (SCI) has assisted the project since 2012.

Contents of the project include the organization of workshops; training for monks and nuns, Buddhists, educators and volunteers; supporting for disadvantaged children; building standards for the care of children infected by HIV/AIDS in the Buddhist facilities.

A representative from the SCI presents scholarships to children in the Buddhist establishments.

Speaking at the meeting reception, Mrs. Britta Ostrom highly valued efforts by monks, nuns, Buddhists and volunteers over the past time and spoke highly of the sustainable impact of the project in the care of disadvantaged children.

On this occasion, the two sides also discussed about the working plan for 2016 and after. Earlier, the SCI delegation visited Ky Quang Buddhist charitable facility and presented 30 scholarships to children from the Buddhist places in the city
