The contributions made by Buddhism to the security, environmental protection, and sustainable development of the Mekong region will be discussed by about 120 international and Vietnamese scholars and experts at a two-day conference that opens in HCM City on Friday.
“Buddhism in Mekong: history and development” will be organized by the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Viet Nam Institute for Buddhist Studies.
Dr Võ Văn Sen, principal of the university, told a press conference that Buddhism in the Mekong is unique since the region lies between the two giant cultures of India and China.
The organizers said 150 papers have been received, including 90 from Vietnamese scholars, about the development of Buddhism, exchange and integration, heritage and culture, and others.
