Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religion delegation visits VBS in Ba Ria Vung Tau

On August 4, Cambodia’s Senior Minister and Minister of Cults and Religion Him Chhem led a delegation to visit the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee in Ba Ria Vung Tau province at Dai Tong Lam pagoda in Tan Thanh district.

Most Venerable Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Quang Hiển welcomed the delegation.

At the reception, Venerable Chief of the Office under the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Thiện Thuận briefly shared with the guests the development of the provincial VBS Executive Committee during the past 25 years and informed that the VBS in the province currently has over 5,000 monks and nuns with 500 pagodas belonging to four Buddhist sects of Mahayana, Khmer Theravada Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism and Buddhist Bhiksu Sect. It also established Buddhist schools at different levels, which trained about 2,500 monks and nuns, he added.

Minister Him Chhem also shared with the hosts on the religious life in Cambodia and informed that Buddhism has been followed by over 90% of the Cambodian population with about 4,400 worshipping places. He also informed that Buddhism is the state religion in Cambodia.
