Vietnam is an important partner of the United Nations and has made many substantial and effective contributions to UN peacekeeping operations, affirmed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Guterres made the affirmation in a message to the government and people of Vietnam on 45 years of Vietnam joining the United Nations (September 20, 1977).
The UN Secretary-General thanked Vietnam for its cooperation and support for the United Nations’ efforts in handling global challenges over the past 45 years.
He hailed the partnership between the United Nations and Vietnam and expressed his wish this partnership would be further strengthened in the coming time to promote peace, sustainable development and human rights in the world.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese State President on September 20 sent a telegram to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, thanking the world governing body for its support and assistance to Vietnam’s development for the past 45 years.
He emphasized that Vietnam supports multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in responding to global challenges. He also affirmed Vietnam will continue to cooperate closely with the United Nations, and make more contributions to the common work for peace and sustainable development in the world and in each country.
