The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held on May 13 a meeting with overseas Vietnamese attending the UN Day of Vesak 2019 inTam Chuc pagoda located in Ha Nam province.
The event saw the particiaption of Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hoàng Thanh Nghị, Head of the Ethnic and Religion Board under the VFF Nguyễn Văn Thanh, Deputy Director of the religious affairs board under the Party Committee’s Comission for Mass Mobilization Hoàng Bá Hai, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu and oversea Vietnamese Buddhists.
During the meeting, representatives of overseas Vietnamese communities shared advantages and disadvantages in Buddhist practices aboard including the reconstruction of Buddhist worshipping places.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng highly valued practical support and contribution of overseas Vietnamese over the past years. He affirmed that Vietnamese Government always pays due attention to religious practices of people at home and aboard, as well as strengthens national unity and promotes fine traditions of religions, contributing to the socio-economic development in the country.
The State of Vietnam attaches importance to mobilize religious resources for the national construction and defense, and regards overseas Vietnamese communities as a bridge to strengthen relations between Vietnam and foreign countries.
As reported, this year, about 250 overseas Vietnamese who are Buddhist monks, nuns, researchers, and believers from 40 countries returned to take part in the 16th UN Day of Vesak 2019. The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has so far established branches in 22 countries around the world.
