The 6th symposium on Khmer Theravada Buddhism held in An Giang province

On September from 13th to 14th, 2014, at Huynh Dao pagoda, Nui Sam ward, Chau Doc city, An Giang province, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held the 6th symposium on Khmer Theravada Buddhism.

Attending the conference, on the side of the VBS were Most Venerable Dương Nhơn, Deputy Patriarch of the Discernment Council of the VBS, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, Chairman of the Executive Council, and most venerable, venerables and monks from 14 the South cities and provinces

State officials at the symposium included Mr. Bùi Thanh Hà, Vice-Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, Mr. Nguyễn Thanh Bình, Vice-Chairman of the An Giang provincial People’s Committee and representatives from the Southwest Steering Committee and local authorities.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Bùi Thanh Hà, Vice-Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs stated that the Party and State persistently regard the VBS, including Khmer Theravada Buddhism, as an important and inseparable part in the great national and religious unity bloc. He also highly valued efforts of dignitaries and followers of Khmer Theravada Buddhism in the implementation of the VBS’ motto “Dharma – Nation - Socialism”, contributing to create stability and development in the South West region in particular and in the whole country in general.
