Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in charge of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng on December 28 chaired a seminar on current affairs of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS).

Joining the seminar included the GCRA’s Vice Chairwoman Trần Thị Minh Nga, Director of the GCRA’s Buddhist Affairs Department Nguyễn Phúc Nguyên, representatives from concerning central agencies and several religious affairs committees in provinces and cities, and several scholars and researchers on Buddhist studies.
The seminar aimed to evaluate the VBS’s current operation and propose solutions and policies for guiding and supporting the VBS to strengthen its organizational apparatus and operate in accordance with the VBS's charter and the state's policies and laws on belief and religion, creating favorable conditions for the VBS to promote fine values and resources of Buddhism in the cause of national construction and development.

During the event, participants commented on remaining issues in the VBS’s affairs including the education and training, the internal solidarity, deviant practices and moral degradation in part of dignitaries and monks. Some of the presentation speeches also made suggestions on the VBS’s organizational model and development orientation to match with the current religious diversity and accord with the legal system and current state policies on belief and religion.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng informed that the GCRA would host more seminars with the participation of experts and officials in charge of the state administration on religion as well as VBS’s dignitaries for further discussing issues relating the VBS development in the coming time.
