Grand ceremony for 60th anniversary of Government Religious Committee, State sector on religious affairs

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) solemnly celebrated 60th founding anniversary of the GCRA and the State sector on religious affairs (August 2nd, 1955- August 2nd, 2015) at a grand ceremony held on July 30 in Hanoi.
Attending the ceremony included Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam, Minister of Home Affairs Nguyễn Thái Bình, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the GCRA Phạm Dũng, representatives from ministries, central agencies, the provincial-level religious committee of 63 provinces and cities in the country, religious organizations, and all officials and staff of the GCRA.
Sixty years ago, on August 2nd, 1955, the Prime Minister issued Decree No. 566-TTg on the establishment of the Committee for Religious Affairs under the Government Office. Through the 60-year development process, the state sector on religious affairs has played an important role in maintaining religious stability, contributing to ensure political security and national defense.
Vietnam’s policies on religion have gradually been improved in order to meet people’s religious needs as well as to solve problems in religious practices. Religious activities have been conducted normally in accordance with the law.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Vũ Đức Đam acknowledged practical contributions by the GCRA and state sector on religious affairs over the past years. He also expressed his hope that the GCRA would continue to strengthen its organizational structure and personnel system in order to meet requirements of the mass mobilization work and state administration on religious affairs in the new situation.
At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam presented the First-Class Independence Order to the GCRA.
On this occasion, 331 individuals were presented a medal of merit from the Minister of the Home Affairs Ministry for their achievements in the State administration on religious affairs.
