Government religious committee visits Buddhist church ahead of its national congress

Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng led a delegation on November 16 to visit the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) ahead of the VBS’s 8th national congress.

The GCRA delegation was welcomed by Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn at the VBS headquarters located in Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi

During the welcoming reception, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn informed the GCRA delegation of results of preparatory works for the 8th Buddhist congress to be held in Hanoi and said the VBS has received due support from concerning state authorities for the important event of the Buddhist sangha.

Speaking with the host, while extending wishes of success to the Buddhist national congress, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng stated that the GCRA will do its best for supporting the event.

The 8th Buddhist congress will take place on November 21-22 in Hanoi with the participation of 1,250 delegates representing followers of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha across the country, and approve its revised charter for the sixth time, as well as working plans for the 2017-2022 tenure.
