Government Religious Committee urges religious organizations to strengthen preventive measures against coronavirus threats

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) in collaboration with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held on February 11 a meeting on the prevention and fight against the acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (nCoV).
The event was co-chaired by Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng and Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council.
Attending the event included Deputy Minister of Health Đỗ Xuân Tuyên, representatives from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Party Commission for Mass Mobilization, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and members of the VBS’s Executive Council.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Health Đỗ Xuân Tuyên informed current situation of the acute respiratory disease caused by the nCoV in the world and Vietnam. Vietnam is doing its best to control the epidemic, he said.

The Deputy Minister also urged the VBS to enhance the communication work for raising religious followers’ awareness of the danger of the nCoV in Buddhist worshipping places.
For his part, Most Venerable Vice President Thích Thanh Nhiễu affirmed that the VBS at all levels and Buddhist worshipping places have taken measures for the fight against the spread of the nCoV according to the guidance of the GCRA and the Ministry of Health..
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng spoke highly of the VBS’s efforts in fighting the ongoing nCoV outbreak.

The GCRA Chairman asked the VBS to enhance the communication work for raising people and Buddhist followers’ awareness of the danger of the nCoV and preventive measures to fight the acute respiratory disease in Buddhist worshipping places.
Regarding to worshipping festivals, the GCRA Chairman asked the VBS to strengthen the organization management of festivals taking at Buddhist worshipping places for preventing deviant worshipping practices contrary to the fine customs and regulations of the State laws and the Church.
