Government religious committee official visits Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City

Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) cum Head of the Home Affairs Ministry’s working group Nguyễn Tiến Trọng paid on September 20 an exchange visit to the executive committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Ho Chi Minh City.  

Accompanying the vice chairman included Director of GCRA’s Southern Affairs Department Trà Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of GCRA’s Buddhist Affairs Department Đào Huy Cường and Deputy Director of the municipal Committee for Religious Affairs of the city Nguyễn Duy Tân.

Welcoming the GCRA official at the office of the municipal VBS executive committee based in Vietnam Quoc Tu pagoda located in the city’s district 10 was Most Venerable Thích Thiện Đức, Member of the Standing Board of the VBS Central Executive Council cum Vice Chairman of the municipal VBS Executive Committee; Most Venerable Thích Huệ Văn, Member of the VBS Central Executive Council cum Vice Chairman of the municipal VBS Executive Committee, and Senior Venerable Thích Thiện Quý, Member of the VBS Central Executive Council cum Secretary of the municipal VBS Executive Committee.

Speaking at the visiting reception, Vice Chairman of the government religious committee Nguyễn Tiến Trọng hailed practical efforts of the municipal VBS executive committee, Buddhist places and followers in the city for pandemic prevention and control work in the city, highlighting Buddhist contributions  of cash to the national Covid-19 vaccine fund, medical equipment to hospitals and medical centers, essential supplies to disadvantaged people and voluntary services in taking care of  COVID-19 patients by Buddhists at frontline hospitals in the city.  

Expressing sympathy over losses that the VBS in HCM City has suffered due to COVID-19, he expressed his hope the municipal VBS executive committee will continue encouraging local Buddhists to make more contributions to the Covid-19 prevention work, and based the practical situation of the pandemic make plans for key Buddhist affairs that have been postponed, including the district-level VBS congresses, and city-level VBS congress for the 2022-2027 tenure and the 40th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

Speaking with the guest, on behalf of the municipal VBS Executive Committee, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Đức thanked the Government Committee for Religious Affairs for paying due attention to Buddhist dignitaries and lay followers amid the complicated developments of COVID-19.
