Government Religious Committee official extends Easter visit to Archbishop of Hanoi

Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Nguyễn Ánh Chức on April 1 visited and met with Archbishop of Hanoi Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên, ahead of Easter 2021.  

Joining the visit included Director of the GCRA’s Department for Catholic Affairs Lê Minh Khánh.

During the visiting reception, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ánh Chức extended warm celebrations of Easter to Archbishop Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên and bishops, priests, clergymen, clergywoman and lay Catholics of Hanoi Archdiocese.

In exchanges with the host about the Covid-19 pandemic and the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th Legislature of the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels slated for May 23, the government religious committee official asked the archbishop to promote his prestigious role in encouraging Catholic dignitaries and parishioners of Hanoi Archdiocese to strictly observe preventive measures recommended by the Government and the Ministry of Health for the epidemic control, and proactively participate in the upcoming elections.

Archbishop Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên took the chance to thank the government religious committee for its support and favorable conditions extended to Catholic practices in the archdiocese over the past years. The Catholic dignitaries also pledged to continue guiding Catholic practices according to state laws and encouraging Catholic believers to make practical contributions for socio-economic development in the country, including the Covid-19 prevention work and the elections of deputies to the legislative bodies in the country.
