Government Religious Committee leader recieves Resident Papal Representative in Vietnam, Archbishop of Hanoi

Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) on February 1 received Archbishop Marek Zalewski, Resident Papal Representative in Vietnam at the GCRA’s headquaters in Hanoi.

During the event, while extending congratulations to Archbishop Marek Zalewski for being appointed by Pope Francis as the first Resident Papal Representative in Vietnam, Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc highlighted that, in 2023, the relation between Vietnam and Vatican made an important progress, especially the upgrade from the non-resident Special Envoy of the Holy See to the permanent Envoy. He affirmed that the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam is to respect and guarantee people’s right to freedom of belief and religion, and pay due attention religious affairs of the Vietnam Catholic Church.

Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc expressed hope that with his new role and position, Archbishop Marek Zalewski would further guide Catholic dignitaries and parishioners in Vietnam to observe the State laws in religious practice and closely accompany with the nation.
On the same day, Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc also received a delegation from Hanoi Archdiocese led by Archbishop Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên to visit and extend Tet greetings to the GCRA.
