Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng hosted on October 23 a reception for visiting U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink.
Joining the reception included representatives from the GCRA’s departments for Protestant affairs, international relation, legislation and inspection, and the committee office.
At the reception, the GCRA leader and the U.S Ambassador had exchanges on the implementation of the Law on Belief and Religion and the recent visit of the GCRA delegation to the U.S. from July 7 to 18.
Regarding the implementation of the Law on Belief and Religion, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng affirmed that the State of Vietnam have a consistent policy for respecting and safeguarding the religious freedom to all people. Under the new law, people kept in custody and detention according to the provisions of the legislation on enforcement of temporary custody and detention; people serving imprisonment sentences; people put into reformatory schools, compulsory educational establishments, compulsory detoxification establishments shall be entitled to use scriptures and express their faith in beliefs and religions, he added.
The Chairman also expressed hope the GCRA and the US Embassy to Vietnam would continue dialogue and cooperation in the spirit of openness, contributing to enhance bilateral relations between Vietnam and the US.
