Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng hosted on August 17 a reception for a visiting delegation from Lao United Buddhists Association and the Central Committee of Lao Front for National Construction.
The delegation was led by Most Venerable Vice President of the Buddhist association Veth Masenay and Vice Chairman of the National front Committee Chanthavong Sene Amatmontry and joint by Senior Venerable Vice President cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council Thích Đức Thiện.

At the reception, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng informed that Buddhism in Vietnam currently has 14 million followers with over 53,000 monks and nuns with worshipping and educating systems present in almost all province and cities across the country. He stated that Buddhism in Vietnam has always stayed closely attached to and accompanied with the nation and the Buddhist relation between Vietnam and Laos has created favorable conditions for developing friendship and solidarity between the two countries,
He also took the chance to thank the Laos Government, the Central Committee of Lao Front for National Construction and Lao United Buddhists Association for create favorable conditions extended to the Vietnamese community, especially the establishment of a Buddhist association of the Vietnamese Buddhists in Laos.
Most Venerable Veth Masenay thanked the GCRA and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha for the warm welcome and expressed that activities on education, preaching between the two Buddhist churches would further promoted, contributing to establish a close Buddhist relation between Laos and Vietnam as well as strengthen the friendship between the two countries .
In exchange with the Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of Lao Front for National Construction, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng spoke highly of the cooperation program between the GCRA and the Lao Front for National Construction. He also highlighted the need for helping Laos Buddhist Association organize the Buddhist international conference to be held later this year, as well as practically implementing the cooperation agreement signed by the two state agencies on religious affairs in the coming time.
Speaking with the host, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of Lao Front for National Construction Chanthavong Sene Amatmontry expressed pleasure at the special relation between Vietnam and Laos in general, the Lao national front committee and the GCRA in particular that are developing more comprehensively and efficiently. He also took the chance to thank the GCRA for support extended to the national front committee over the past years.
The Buddhist international conference between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia is expected to be held from November 11 – 14 in Vientiane, Laos.
