Government religious committee leader joins Vesak celebration in Quan Su Pagoda

Dr. Vũ Chiến Thắng, Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs has attended a solemn ceremony held the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) on May 7 for celebrating the Buddha’s Birthday, also known as Vesak, 2020 (B.E. 2564).     

Joining the event taking place in Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi included Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the VBS’s Discernment Council Thích Thanh Dũng, Most Venerable Permanent Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Director General of Voice of Vietnam (VOV) Nguyễn Thế Kỷ and Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Ngô Sách Thực. 

As a result of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in line with the government’s regulations on epidemic prevention and control, the ceremony took place in a simple manner with less than 30 guests and participating Buddhists asked to maintain a safe distance from others in order to curb the potential spread of the virus among the community. The event was aired on An Vien Television, VTVCab, and social media to help Buddhists nationwide also celebrate at their homes.

Addressing the event, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng extended his best wishes to Buddhist followers nationwide and expressed his high appreciation for their practical contributions to the cause of the national construction and defense, especially their joint efforts in past months in helping the country combat against the COVID-19.

The government religious committee leader also called on Buddhist leaders continue encouraging and guiding Buddhists nationwide to uphold fine traditions, as well as hold Buddhist practices in strict observance of competent authorities’ regulations and safe manners suiting practical conditions of the nCov pandemic in localities.
