Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng paid on January 16 visits to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council and Hanoi Archdiocese, ahead of the traditional New Year (Tet festival).

During the visit to Hanoi Archdiocese, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng wished Archbishop Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên, dignitaries and followers in the Archdiocese a peaceful, prosperous New Year 2019. The GCRA Chairman took the chance to share with the hosts results of the recent seventh meeting of the Vietnam-Vatican Joint Working Group where the two sides agreed to upgrade the Vatican Representative in Vietnam from the level of non-resident envoy to resident envoy.

On the same day, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng visited the VBS’s Executive Council based in Quan Su pagoda and was welcomed by Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu and Senior Venerable General Secretary cum Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Đức Thiện.
While extending Lunar New Year greetings to the VBS’s Executive Council, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers throughout the country, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng expressed hope that the VBS would successfully host the UN Vesak Celebration 2019 in Ha Nam province.
