Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng attended the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s conference 2018 for Northern region held on May 5.
The event taking place in Bai Dinh pagoda located in Ninh Binh province saw the participation of large numbers of Buddhist dignitaries of the VBS’s central executive and discerning councils, the VBS’s chapter in 29 provinces and cities in Vietnam North, and representatives of central and local authorities.

This is the largest VBS event ever held after the sangha’s 8th national congress successful convened in 2017.
The Buddhist conference, running until May 12, will focus on gathering comments on draft regulations of the VBS’s executive bodies at national, central and district levels, trainings on Buddhist administration and communication, as well as the dissemination of the Law on Belief and Religion and its guiding Decree No. 162 that took effect early this year.
Addressing the VBS’s three-day event, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng stressed the need for understanding key contents of the new law on belief and religion, and called on Buddhist dignitaries and deacons to proactively guide Buddhist practices in accordance with the VBS’s Charter and state laws.
