Government religious committee leader attends Buddhist new school year ceremony

Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng attended on September 4 the opening ceremony of the new academy year 2018 – 2019 of the Vietnam Buddhist Institute in Hanoi under the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS).

The event also saw the attendance of Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch Thích Thanh Dũng, Most Venerable President of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, former State Vice President Nguyễn Thị Doan and over 600 monks, nuns studying at the Institute.

Addressing at the event, while extending congratulatory greetings to monks and nuns studying at the Institute, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng hailed the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha for its training achievements and practical contributions to the socio-economic development of the country.

On the occasion, the VBS announced the decision approving the 97-member committee for cultural affairs for the 8th term (2017 – 2022) headed by Senior Venerable Vice President of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thanh Quyết.

Currently, the VBS has three Buddhist institutes in three regions and an educating system present in almost all provinces and cities across the country.
