Government religious committee holds seminar on religious resources for social charities

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held on July 13 a seminar with the theme “Theoretical foundation on religious resources for social charities in current Vietnam”. 

The event was chaired by Vice Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Ánh Chức, and attended by representatives from the central agencies, and large numbers of religious scholars, experts, and dignitaries of religious organizations.

The event aimed to clarify theory on religious resources for social charity, focusing on the capacity and strength of religions in social charities as independent organizations, and propose specific policies and laws to create a legal corridor for religious organizations implementing these charities.

The seminar has received 17 presentation papers and 10 comments from seminar participants focusing on religious resources devoted to charities in Vietnam and roles of state agencies in the promotion of these resources.

Pastor President of Evangelical Church of Vietnam (North) Nguyễn Hữu Mạc informed that the social charity work has been prescribed in the doctrine and cannon of the Church. Based on that, the Church could mobilize human and material resources for social and charitable activities.

Addressing at the event, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ánh Chức  highly appreciated comments of seminar participants. The Vice Chairman emphasized that in the current context of integration and development, religions have been promoting social charitable activities, practically contributing to helping Vietnam Government to take care of people, create jobs and reduce poverty, etc.  

Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ánh Chức also stressed the need of a clear legal framework relating to social charities and the collaboration between the Vietnam Fatherland Front and religious organizations in implementing social charitable activities in the country.
