Government religious committee holds seminar on 40-year development of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) in collaboration with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held on July 11 a seminar themed “The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha - 40 years accompanying the nation”.

The seminar taking place in Ho Chi Minh City was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng, Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Hoài Bắc, and Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council.
The seminar’s organizing board has received 20 presentation papers from dignitaries of the VBS and Buddhist experts and researchers, which affirmed the tradition of closely accompanying the nation of the VBS, proposed solutions to strengthen the VBS’s organization in the era of integration and development, as well as commented on the personnel affairs of the VBS’s 9th national congress.

Speaking at the seminar, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn expressed hope that the Home Affairs Ministry and the GCRA would continue paying due attention and support the VBS in amending its charter in accordance with the tradition of Buddhism and the State’s laws which will be submitted to the VBS’s 9th national congress to be held at the end of this year.
