Government religious committee holds first-quarter conference on religious affairs in southern region

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) in collaboration with Ca Mau provincial government held a conference on the state governance on belief and religion in the first quarter 2019.  

The event was co-chaired by Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng and Vice Chairman of Ca Mau provincial People’s Committee Trần Hồng Quân, and attended by over 100 delegates who are representatives of the provincial agencies in charge of the state management on belief and religion of 19 provincies and cities of Vietnam South.

According to the conference’s report, the provincial authorities in Southern region have approved for the establishment of total 12 religious sub-organizations and licensed for the construction of ten religious facilities.

The conference also pointed out religion-related issues remaining, including compensations for religious land clearance in some cases, discrepancies in guiding the implementation of the Law on Belief and Religion and its guiding Decree 162, improper training and lack of incentives for those working in the state sector on religion, etc.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng asked provincial agencies assigned with the state governance on belief and religion to pay due attention to the solving of religion-related land disputes and scrutiny for new religious phenomena or worshipping practices, as well as strengthen the implementation of state laws and policies on religion and belief.
