Government Religious Committee comments on draft Amended Criminal Code

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held a conference on the draft Amended Criminal Code on August 13.

The conference was presided by Vice Chairman of the GCRA Bùi Thanh Hà and representatives of departments and divisions.

At the event, the participants exchanged and discussed on the amended contents, including criminal liability of legal person and legal type of offense for criminal responsibility, the scope of the criminal responsibility of minors and the alternative measures applied criminal penalties for juvenile offenders, the removal of death penalty in a number of crimes; conversion of pecuniary punishment, penalty reform a penalty custodial imprisonment term; the penalty of expulsion; the abolition of a number of crimes and supplement a number of new criminal offenses; the addition of criminal cases handled for the theft of property valued at less than 2 million VND.

The amendment of the Criminal Code aims to further institutionalize the Party’s policies and guidelines and effectively implement the international agreements  which Vietnam is a member. Simultaneously, the draft also creates a favorable legal basis for initiating and strengthening international cooperation in preventing and combating crime, especially transnational crime.
