Government Religious Committee Chairman attends 10th anniversary of Quang Ninh provincial VBS

     Quang Ninh provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee held a grand ceremony on Jan 19 at Ha Long city to celebrate its 10th founding anniversary and receive the Third-class Labor Medal.        

Attending the ceremony were Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, Acting Chairman of the VBS Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council; Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết, Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council cum Head of the provincial VBS Executive Committee and typical monks, nuns and Buddhists in the locality.

Central and local guests at the ceremony included Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Phạm Dũng; Vice Chairman of the central Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Lê Bá Trình; Secretary of Quang Ninh provincial Party Committee Phạm Minh Chính and representatives from local authorities.

The provincial VBS Executive Committee was official established in 2005 with about 90,000 Buddhists, 65 monks and nuns, 87 monasteries. Currently, Buddhism in Quang Ninh has over 160,000 Buddhists practicing the religion in 320 asmaras and 159 monasteries.

During its ten-year building and development, the provincial VBS Executive Committee implemented many projects of restoration and construction of Buddhist establishments such as Yen Tu relics, Ba Vang pagoda, Cai Bau pagoda - Truc Lam Giac Tam Zen monastery…

Along with restoration and constructions of Buddhist facilities, the provincial VBS Executive Committee and Buddhists in the locality actively participated in charitable and social activities, including the building of 30 solidarity houses for poor people in the locality and with an estimated value of over 25 billion VND in the past five years.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the GCRA Phạm Dũng stated that during 10 years, Buddhism in the Quang Ninh province achieved important results, especially in preservation and promotion of fine traditional and historical values. He also expressed his hope that the provincial VBS Executive Committee would further promote fine traditions of Vietnam Buddhism and guide Buddhists to practice the religion in accordance with the law, live for “better religious and secular life”, contributing to bring happiness to people and safeguard the country.

During the ceremony, the provincial VBS Executive Committee honorably received the Third-class Labor Medal and Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết was awarded the Second-class Labor Medal of the President; two individuals were presented with the great national solidarity medal; 18 individuals received a certificate of merit of the Prime Minister and the provincial People’s Committee for outstanding achievements in Buddhists activities during the past years.
