Government Religious Committee and State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs sign coordination program

The State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and the Government Committee for Religious Affairs signed on November 27 a coordination program for the 2020-2025 period.  

The signing took place on the sideline of the conference reviewing the five-year implementation of Directive 45-CT/TƯ on promoting the implementation of Resolution No. 36-CT/TƯ on Overseas Vietnamese (OV) affairs in the contemporary context held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Đặng Minh Khôi and attended by Vice Chairman of the State Committee on OV Affairs Ngô Trịnh Hà, Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Ánh Chức, representatives from the State Committee on OV Affairs, the GCRA’s departments and the conference participants.

The coordination program aims to improve belief and religious affairs in the OV communities, promote roles of religious organizations and dignitaries in Vietnam and aboard for meeting needs of belief and religious practices, contributing to help the OV communities to better understand the State’s policies and laws on belief and religion.

Main contents of the program include coordinations in proposing and implementing policies and laws on solidarity of OV communities relating belief and religion, information exchange on OV communities and practices of belief and religion, and the communication work on the State polices relating to belief and religion amongst OV communities, etc.

The Vietnamese community abroad currently has about 5.3 million people, with 80% of them following belief or religion.

Recognizing the important roles and contributions of the OV community in strengthening the national solidarity bloc, the State Committee on OV Affairs and the GCRA has signed a coordination agreement on OV affairs for the 2020-2025 period.
