Government religious committee and Nghe An provincial government discuss three-year implementation of belief and religion law

A delegation of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) visited and had a working meeting with the provincial People’s Committee of Nghe An for reviewing the three-year implementation of Law on Belief and Religion.

Present at the meeting included Vice Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Tiến Trọng, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lê Hồng Vinh, Head of the GCRA’s Legislation and Inspection Department Nguyễn Thị Định, and representatives of several divisions of the GCRA and concerning departments and agencies of the Nghe An provincial government.

During the working meeting, the provincial religious committee of Nghe An briefed a report on the implementation of the Law on Belief and Religion and its guiding Decree in the 2018-2020 period, and the meeting participants had exchanges on key contents of the state administration on belief and religion, including the registration of religious practices, religious land and construction, sanctions for violations of the new law, etc.

Standing Vice Chairman of Nghe An provincial People’s Committee Lê Hồng Vinh also asked for a specific guidance from central bodies for addressing difficulties and overlapping in implementing several articles of the Law on Belief and Religion 2016 in the central province, especially at district and commune levels.

Vice Chairman of the government religious committee Nguyễn Tiến Trọng spoke highly of achievements recorded in the Nghe An in the state administration on belief and religion, contributing to meet legitimate needs of religious people in the locality.

Regarding religious affairs in the coming time, the government religious committee  official asked for a flexible approach in handling issues relating religious land, and close coordination between concerning authorities in Nghe An for ensuring a strict implementation of measures against the Covid-19 pandemic amongst religious communities in the province and proactive engagement by religious people in the locality in the elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councilss for the 2-21-2026 tenure slated for next month.

Catholicism and Buddhism is the two major religions in Nghe An, and the province is currently home to over 2,600 worshipping places of traditional and folk beliefs.
