Government Committee for Religious Affairs visits and congratulates new President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam

On October 21, 2013, a delegation from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs headed by its Vice Chairman Mr. Dương Ngọc Tấn visited the Diocese of My Tho (32 Hung Vuong Street, Ward 7, My Tho city, Tien Giang province) to congratulate Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc on his appointment as Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City cum Apostolic Administrator of the vacant nutum et Sanctae Sedis of the Diocese of My Tho and his election as President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam (CBCV) for the 2013-2016 term at the 12th Assembly of the CBCV.

Joining the delegation was Mr. Trương Hoàn Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs and Head of the Committee for Religious Affairs of Tien Giang province.

On behalf of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, Mr. Dương Ngọc Tấn conveyed the congratulations of Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Chairman of the Committee Pham Dzung to the new CBCV President and Coadjutor Archbishop. He expressed his hope that the Church, the CBCV and Coadjutor Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc will guide Catholic followers in Vietnam to stay closely attached to, and accompany the nation in the construction and development process.

Coadjutor Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc thanked the delegation for its visit and congratulation. He said that in new position, he will join efforts of the Church and the CBCV to continue guiding Catholic followers to implement the Church’s motto “Living the Gospel amidst the nation, for the happiness of fellow countrymen”, and organize religious activities in accordance with the law.
