Government Committee for Religious Affairs leaders attends opening ceremony of the 2014 Yen Tu Spring Festival and learns about Buddhist activities at Yen Tu relic site

On Feb 9, 2014, Mr. Dương Ngọc Tấn - Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs attended the opening ceremony of the 2014 Yen Tu Spring Festival at the Yen Tu relic site in Thuong Yen Cong commune, Uong Bi city, the northeastern province of Quang Ninh. He was accompanied by Mr. Lê Minh Khánh, Deputy Director of the Committee’s Department of Buddhist Affairs and other officials. The delegation also studied Buddhist activities at the site.

The Yen Tu relic site, with a system of dense Buddhist worshipping places has important historical, cultural and religious values. There are more and more people from all corners of the country and abroad coming here to contemplate the landscape and its worshipping places, and practice their beliefs. The Yen Tu Spring Festival is one of the biggest and longest festival attached to spiritual and Buddhist activities in the country. The highlight of this year’s event is the inaugural of the statue of King Monk Tran Nhan Tong which weighs 138 tonnes and is 15 m high, sits on the An Ky Sinh peak, 900 metres above the sea water level./.

The statue of King Monk Tran Nhan Tong was recognised as the largest monolithic bronze statue in Vietnam by the Vietnam Book of Records.

Mr. Duong Ngoc Tan - Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and Most Venerable Thich Quang Tung, Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha learn about Buddhist activities at some pagodas in the Yen Tu beauty and relic site.
