Government Committee for Religious Affairs holds a conference to review religious affairs in the provinces, cities of Northern midlands and mountainous region in the first six months of 2014

On July 25, 2014, at Hai Phong city, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) in collaborating with Hai Phong city’s People’s Committee held a conference to review religious affairs in the provinces, cities of Northern midlands and mountainous region in the first six months and approve the working plan for the last six months. Earlier a similar, conference has been held in Can Tho city and Gia Lai province for the provinces, cities of Southern and Central Coast and Highlands region.

Attending the conference were Mr. Nguyễn Văn Thành, Member of Party's Central Committee, Secretary of Party Committee of Hai Phong City, Chairman of Hai Phong city People’s Council; Mr. Phạm Dũng, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA), Mr. Dương Ngọc Tấn, Vice-Chairman of the GCRA; representatives from the GCRA’s departments and provincial Committees for Religious Affairs of 26 provinces and cities in Northern Vietnam.

At the conference, delegates focused their discussion on several issues, including: assessment of the religious affairs in the first six months, targets and tasks for the last six months; key tasks of religious affairs in Northern midlands and mountainous region; tasks regarding to Protestantism and Catholicism; and basic contents to be adjusted in drafting law on belief and religion. On general assessment the religious situation in the first six months maintained stability; religious activities abided by the law; religious followers have contributed to national unity and the construction and defense of the country.

The working plan in last six months of 2014 needs to concentrate on main tasks, including drafting law on belief and religion; reviewing the ten-year implementation of the resolution No.25 of the Central Committee of the Communist Party on religious affairs; guiding religions to organize the conferences in compliance with the State law and religious Charter; strengthening the communication and coordination among various levels of State authorities, effectively solving religion-related issues./.
