Government Committee for Religious Affairs celebrates Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day

On June 21, 1925, the Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper was established by President Ho Chi Minh, laying the foundation of Vietnam’s revolutionary press.

To acknowledge the President Ho Chi Minh’s role in the founding of Vietnam’s revolutionary press, on June 21, 2000, on occasion of 75th anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day, Politburo and the Party Central Committee decided that the Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day will be celebrated every year on June 21st in order to promote the good tradition of revolutionary press, uphold the responsibility of press, strengthen the Party’s leadership, enhance roles of journalism in society and tighten relations between journalists and public readers…

Vietnam is a multi religious and multi cultural country with majority of population following beliefs and religions, so information and reflection of belief and religious life in Vietnam are interested issues for people in Vietnam and overseas. The reflection of religious activities by religious individuals and organizations in Vietnam has contributed to demonstrate the fine policy of the Party and State on freedom of belief and religion.

Implementing the tasks of communication, propaganda, the website and Religious Affairs Magazine of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) always stick fast to the Party’s policy and the State’s law regarding religion; promptly report positive changes in religious life of followers, religious activities of recognized and non-recognized organizations; activities of the GCRA as well as state’s administration on religious affairs throughout the country.

Although the websites and Religious Affairs Magazine of the GCRA not have established for long, they have achieved good results in communication about religious affairs and religious situation. The release numbers of Religious Affairs Magazine reached about 18,000 per year, Vietnamese and English websites (http://btgcp.gov.vn/ and http://religion.vn/) have an increasing number of users online. The good results are brought by due attention and thorough guidance by leaders from the GCRA, efforts of staffs of the Religious Affairs Magazine and Information Centre, support of units and departments under the GCRA and closely collaboration of collaborators throughout the country.

On occasion of 89th anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day, on June 18 2014, the GCRA held a meeting to celebrate 89th anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day in order to recall its fine tradition, review its previous results and exchange experiences of journalism amongst collaborators from northern provinces and collect contributed opinions for the websites and Religious Affairs Magazine to improve its tasks performance. Attending the meeting were leaders and officials from the GCRA; representatives from central and local concerned authorities, reporters, researchers on religion and belief
