GCRA’s leaders attend 9th conference on Khmer Theravada Buddhism

The ninth conference on Khmer Theravada Buddhism was held on December 18 by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Phat Ngoc Xa Loi pagoda located in Vinh Long province.  

The event saw the presence of Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ministry Vũ Chiến Thắng, Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Trần Thị Minh Nga, Most Venerable Chairman of the central VBS’ Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, dignitaries of the VBS’s Discernment Council and Executive Council, representatives from the executive committees, and dignitaries of the Khmer Theravada Buddhist sect in 15 provinces and cities of Southern region.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairwoman of the GCRA Trần Thị Minh Nga highly appreciated efforts of dignitaries and lay Buddhists of Khmer Theravada Buddhism in well implementing the motto "Dharma - Nationality - Socialism" of the VBS over the past years, contributing to the stability and socio-economic development of Southern provinces and cities.

The ninth conference on Khmer Theravada Buddhism focused on issues for attracting monks enrolled in the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institution, improving the efficiencies of solidarity societies of patriotic Buddhist monks in Southern provinces and cities, expanding Vietnamese classes in Khmer Theravada Buddhist pagodas, better creating pagoda profiles, recommending monks with merit to the revolution, and using the pagoda's seal, etc.

The conference on Khmer Theravada Buddhism is held every two years since 2002 to review the religious affairs of the Khmer Theravada Buddhism, helping the GCRA, the VBS and central and local authorities to promptly consider and extend favorable conditions to religious practices of Khmer Theravada Buddhism.
