On December 7, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held a meeting to review the drafting process of the Law on Belief and Religion.
Attending the conference included Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Culture, Education, Adolescents and Children Hoàng Thị Hoa, Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the GCRA Bùi Thanh Hà, representatives of the concerning ministries and agencies, members of the Drafting Committee and the Editorial Team on the law of belief and religion project, and representatives of the GCRA’s departments and units.
The bill on belief and religion is one of laws that received much interests and recommendations from the public, especially religious individuals and organizations in Vietnam and other countries. The law containing 9 chapters and 68 articles was officially adopted on November 18, 2016 by the National Assembly with 84,58% its deputies endorsing the bill.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman Bùi Thanh Hà thanked members of the drafting committee and editorial team, religious scholars and organizations for their contributions to the building of the law on belief and religion.

During the event, Vice Chairman Hoàng Thị Hoa affirmed that the Law on Belief and Religion was enacted to institutionalize the Party's guideline and the 2013 Constitution’s articles on freedom of belief and religion, address practical issues and contribute to comply with international treaties that Vietnam has ratified.
She also suggested that, for ensuring its legal effect, the GCRA should continue drafting decrees for guiding the implementation of its articles and dealing with administrative violations on religious laws.
