On July 14, Director of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Department of Buddhist Affairs Bùi Hữu Dược hosted a reception for the visiting delegation of the Buddhist Association (Tao Dong Zen sect) in China’s Zhejiang province.
Welcoming the delegation also included representatives of the GCRA’s Office and Departments of International Relation and Buddhist Affairs.
The Tao Dong Chinese sect’s delegation was led by Venerable Luo Hong Yu, Member of the Buddhist Association of China, Deputy General Secretary of the Buddhist Association in Zhejiang province, and Chairman of the Buddhist Association in Zhejiang province’s Huzhou city.
At the welcoming reception, Director Bùi Hữu Dược shared with the guests on Buddhism in Vietnam and its great influence in Vietnamese society. According to Mr. Dược, Vietnam Buddhism has nearly 50,000 monks and nuns, over 12 million registered followers, and about 17,000 pagodas across the country. He also stated that the visit contributed to promote the friendship relation between Vietnam and China in general and the Buddhist tie between the two countries in particular.
Venerable Luo Hong Yu thanked the GCRA for its welcome and information on Vietnam Buddhism and expressed hope that the relation between the two countries’ Buddhism, including Tao Dong Zen sect, would be further strengthened and fostered in the coming time.
