GCRA official visits Minh Su Theravada Buddhist Church

The Home Affairs (MOHA)’s working group led by Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Nguyễn Tiến Trọng, paid on September a working visit to Minh Su Theravada Buddhist Church in Ho Chi Minh city’s Binh Chanh district.

The working group visit was welcomed by Rev. Trương Mỹ Hạnh, Vice Chairwoman of the Church’s Executive Committee, and dignitaries of Trong Van Phat Duong pagoda.

On behalf of the Minh Su Theravada Buddhist Church, Vice Chairwoman Trương Mỹ Hạnh took the chance to thank the MOHA and GCRA for their due supports extended to the Church in religious affairs over the past years. She informed that the Church has issued a dispatch guiding its worshipping establishments to strictly observe preventive measures guided by the Government, the GCRA and local authorities such a conscientious observance of the Health Ministry's 5K message, suspension of religious gatherings and postponement of the Church annual general meeting 2021.

In addition, the Church has also contributed 300 million VND to the Vaccine Fund, presented 2,000 relief sets, 10,000 meals, seven tons of rice, over 10 tons of fruits and vegetables, worth over one billion VND in total, to people badly affected by the pandemic in some areas in Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces.

She also informed that so far 26 dignitaries, deacons and followers of the Minh Su Theravada Buddhist Church have received Covid-19 vaccine.

At the visiting reception, GCRA Vice Chairman Nguyễn Tiến Trọng had exchanges with the Church on advantages and disadvantages in religious practices and the Covid-19 prevention. While highly appreciating efforts and practical contributions made by the Buddhist Church to the Covid-19 prevention and control, he expressed hope that the leadership and followers of the Minh Su Church would continue helping people including co-religious most affected by the pandemic and supporting the Vaccine Fund of the Government.
