GCRA official visit VBS central office in Ho Chi Minh city

Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) cum Head of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA)’s working group Nguyễn Tiến Trọng paid on September 3 a working visit to the office of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Central Executive Council in Ho Chi Minh city.

The GCRA delegation was welcomed by Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, Vice President cum General Secretary of the VBS’s Executive Council.  

At the working reception, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Tiến Trọng informed that the MOHA working group in Ho Chi Minh city aimed to strengthen  the implementation of the state administration on belief and religion in Ho Chi Minh city and southern provinces in the context of complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện took the chance to thank the MOHA and GCRA extended to the VBS in Buddhist affairs over the past years. The Senior Venerable said that since the outbreak of the epidemic, the VBS’s Executive Council has issued many documents guiding the central function committees, VBS’s executive bodies at lower levels and worshipping places to strictly observe preventive measures guided by the Government, the Ministry of Health and local authorities, as well as proactively join in social charity activities and contribute to the "Covid-19 Prevention and Control Fund" and "Vaccine Fund" with a total value of nearly 400 billion VND, including 140 billion VND in cash.

Speaking at the event, while hailing efforts of the VBS at all levels, and monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in Covid-19 prevention and control, Vice Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Tiến Trọng spoke highly of their practical contributions through charitable activities, donations to the "Covid-19 Prevention and Control Fund" and "Vaccine Fund", and other voluntary services during the pandemic. He expressed hope that the VBS’s Executive Council would continue making relentless efforts for overcoming difficulties and further supporting the Covid-19 prevention and control.
