Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Nguyễn Tiến Trọng, Head of a working group of Ministry of Home Affairs on September 1st visited and met with Priest Joseph Đào Nguyên Vũ, Chief of the office of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam (CBCV) in Ho Chi Minh City.
Accompanying the GCRA official included Director of the GCRA’s Southern Religious Affairs Department Trà Quang Thanh and Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh municipal Home Affairs Department cum Chairman of the municipal Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Duy Tân.
During the visit, GCRA Vice Chairman Nguyễn Tiến Trọng informed Priest Joseph Đào Nguyên Vũ shared about the working group of the home affairs ministry in Ho Chi Minh City that aimed at strengthening the state management on belief and religion as well as assisting religious organizations in the city in implementing measures for the Covid-19 prevent and control and organizing voluntary services.
On behalf of the Home Affairs Ministry, the GCRA Vice Chairman highly appreciated efforts made by the Catholic Church in Vietnam to the Covid-19 prevention and control, including practical contributions extended to people in need during the pandemic outbreak, the Covid-19 prevention and vaccine funds, and voluntary services at the frontline hospitals set up for treatment of infected people, support disadvantaged people severely affected by the pandemic over the past months.
GCRA Vice Chairman Nguyễn Tiến Trọng also sent his sympathy and encouragement to Catholic followers and the Catholic church over difficulties and loss caused by the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. He also had exchanges with the CBCV’s office on difficulties in organizing volunteer services as well as charitable activities supporting disadvantaged people during the ongoing outbreak pandemic in the country.
Speaking with the guest, Priest Joseph Đào Nguyên Vũ took the chance to thank the Home Affairs Ministry, the GCRA, competent sectors and the municipal authority for their efforts in the Covid-19 pandemic prevention and supports extended to people in need during the pandemic outbreak over the past months.
He also informed the GCRA official about results of the CBCV’s epidemic prevention and control work and charitable activities since the Covid-19 outbreak, and plans for sending clerics with psychological expertise to hospitals for providing consolation and encouragement to the infected and further supporting disadvantaged people during and after the pandemic.
