The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held on December 28 a conference to review the State management on religious affairs in 2016 and approve working plans for 2017.
The conference was presided over by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (MOHA) Nguyễn Trọng Thừa, Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the GCRA Bùi Thanh Hà and Vice Chairmen of the GCRA Dương Ngọc Tấn and Trần Tấn Hùng, and attended by representatives of the provincial-level committee for religious affairs from all provinces and cities across the country.
The event also saw the participation of Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Public Security, Former Chairman of the GCRA Phạm Dũng, and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huỳnh Vĩnh Ái.
As reported at the conference, over the past year, the GCRA in particular and the State administration on religious affairs in general have actively guided religious organizations to comply with State laws and promote their moral and cultural values in the social life, as well as create favorable conditions for religious organizations to organize great and important religious events, including the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s 35th founding anniversary and the 100th founding anniversary of Hanoi Protestant Church.
In addition, the GCRA also successfully drafted the law on belief and religion, which was approved by the National Assembly in November and takes effect on January 1, 2018.

The conference also discussed issues and tasks of the State management on religion after the Law on Belief and Religion taking its effect and gathered comments for drafting decrees for guiding the implementation of its articles and dealing with administrative violations of the religious law.
During the event, the GCRA presented certificates of merit to 62 groups and 123 individuals from provinces and cities for their contributions in the State administration sector on religious affairs.
