GCRA extends congratulations to first annual meeting of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam

Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Nguyễn Ánh Chức paid on April 28 a congratulatory visit to the first annual meeting of the Vietnam Catholic Bishop’s Conference (CBCV) held in Thai Binh diocese.

The GCRA official accompanied by Director of the GCRA’s Catholic Affairs Department Đinh Quang Tiến was welcomed by Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh, President of the CBCV, and Bishop Pierre Nguyễn Văn Đệ of Thai Binh diocese.

During the visit, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ánh Chức presented a floral bouquet sent by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng to the CBCV and Thai Binh diocese on occasion of the CBCV’s first annual conference and the diocese’s 85th founding anniversary.

Speaking at the visit, while extending congratulations to Archbishop President and members of the CBCV, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ánh Chức highlighted practical contributions of the CBCV and the Vietnamese Catholic community to the Covid-19 prevention work in the last two years, including donations to the Covid-19 vaccine fund, presentation of medical equipment, cash and essential supplies to field hospitals and disadvantaged people affected by the epidemic with a total value of over 300 billion VND, as well as voluntary services of over 1,700 priests, clergymen and clergywomen and seminarians in frontline forces against the pandemic.

The GCRA official also informed about the results of the 9th round meeting of the Vietnam - Vatican Joint Working Group that took place in Hanoi last week and expressed hope that the Catholic Church of Vietnam would continue promoting its role in fostering good relations between Vietnam Government and the Vatican.
