GCRA Chairman pays homage to Most Venerable Thích Thanh Sam

Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng led a delegation on March 14 to pay homage to Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s (VBS) Discernment Council Thích Thanh Sam at his funeral held at Dai Thanh temple in Bac Ninh city.

Writing in the funeral book, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng expressed his deep condolences to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, monks, nuns, followers and relatives of the Most Venerable Thích Thanh Sam upon the death of the Buddhist leader.

Earlier, Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng sent a letter of condolences on March 13 to the Central VBS’s Executive Council, VBS’s Executive Committee in Bac Ninh province, monks, nuns and followers upon the death of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Sam. In the letter, the GCRA leader highlighted practical contributions made by Most Venerable Thích Thanh Sam to unity and development of Vietnam Buddhism at home and aboard, as well as to the cause of national construction and defense in the country.

Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of VBS’s Discernment Council Thích Thanh Sam, Abbot of Dai Thanh temple was born in 1929 in Dong Binh village, Xuan Lai commune, Bac Ninh province’s Gia Binh district. Due to old age and poor health, he passed away at 6.30 am on March 12 at the age of 90.
