GCRA Chairman attends conference on social contributions of religions

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Phạm Dũng attended and delivered an opening speech at a conference with the theme “Religious Contribution in Society” held on September 7 in Quang Ninh province.

The conference was organized under a cooperation program between the GCRA and the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE).

Overview of the conference

Vice Chairman of the GCRA Bùi Thanh Hà and IGE’s representative Vũ Thị Mai Hiên also joint with about 70 participants from central agencies, provincial committees for religious affairs in Vietnam North and religious dignitaries (including Catholicism, Protestantism, Buddhism, Baha’i and Caodaism).

Speaking at the conference, Chairman Phạm Dũng emphasized that the conference provided an opportunities for scholars, officials working on state religious affairs and religious dignitaries to discuss and exchange together, contributing to enhance knowledge about religion and religious policies in Vietnam.

He also took the chance to thank IGE for its support of good will and assistance in promoting religious understanding and tolerance in Vietnam in previous years.

The two-day seminar held on Sept 7th – 8th, created opportunities for exchanges of views on contributions made by religious organizations in specific aspects including culture, charity, tolerance, harmony to the society…

As reported, in March this year, the GCRA also organized in collaboration with the IGE a similar conference for Vietnam’s Central in Da Nang city and a workshop on conflict resolution skills in Ho Chi Minh city.

Currently, Vietnam is home to about 25 million followers, accounting for 27 percent of the country’s population. Vietnam has also been rated as one of the countries with highest degree of religious diversity in the world.
